Bites
You suffered bites? Always see a surgeon!
- Wash the wound with soap and running water.
- Put on an aseptic/clean dressing.
- Raise your limb, e.g. on a sling.
- Remove jewellery from the bitten limb e.g. your wedding ring from your finger - when the swelling grows the pressure may result in ischemia and/or necrosis of the finger.

Always see a doctor! Bacterial flora of human saliva is as dangerous as animal saliva
Animal bites
- Check whether the animal has been vaccinated against rabies.
- Inform the surgeon about the fact or about lack of vaccination !!!!
- If possible, keep the animal for observation by a veterinary surgeon.
- Always keep taking the prescribed antibiotic until you have used it up !!!
- In principle, bitten wounds are not sutured – surgeons know exceptions to the rule and they will recommend the appropriate procedure !!!
